“I wanted to build a studio where musicians can catch a vibe, feel comfortable creating solo or collaboratively, take creative risks, and produce work that best reflects their vision and their voice. Boardinghouse Recording Studio (BRS) is that space.
BRS is the studio I wish was available to me as a burgeoning, broke musician.I first started recording my own demos back in the early aughts om the classic OG white Macbook. That computer was my entire studio—no interface, mixer, external mic. I used Garageband and recorded vocals directly into the Macbook’s built-in mic. Eventually I started playing shows with musicians who doubled as engineers. They fast-tracked my access to professional recording and production. It was a game-changer.
With consultation from Brett Acoustics and recording engineer/ guitarist Chris Boerner, we’ve built a recording room outfitted with high-end equipment— onboard converters, preamps, monitors, all the DAWs,— software and hardware selected at the advisement of people I trust. I’ve added my personal collection of instruments along with a few synths, drum machines and mics to the top-of-the line gear we’ve purchased. Our goal is simple: to provide artists the environment they need to produce dope work.
BRS is available for rent at a reasonable rate so that musicians of every caliber have equal access to a state of the art recording space.” —- shirlette ammons
BRS also seeks to create learning opportunities for up and coming musicians and audio engineers.
Stay tuned for programming updates including hi-fi listening sessions with your favorite DJs, musicians, writers, musicologists and audiophiles!

BRS is a funky little live room — clocking in at 13’ x 30’ with 8 ‘ ceilings— but don’t judge our vibe by our size!
